If you’ve been scheduled for a medical exam through Leidos QTC Health Services, this guide is here to help. These exams support the benefits and disability claims process and are requested by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) or the Department of Defense (DoD).
This is not a treatment appointment—it’s an evaluation to help assess service-connected conditions and determine benefit eligibility.
Use this FAQ to understand what to expect before, during, and after your exam—and who to contact if you have questions.

The examination is at no cost and is covered by the VA. Do not provide your private insurance information. If you receive a bill in error, contact a Leidos QTC Health Services representative at 1(800) 682-9701.

The VA’s Compensation and Pension (C&P) examination is a key part of determining eligibility for service-connected disability compensation and benefits. This exam is not a treatment exam. It aims to assess the existence, severity, and effects of the claimed condition (e.g., abnormal gait, spasms, or loss of grip).

Arrive 15 minutes early, as late arrivals may result in cancellation. Bring a valid photo ID and a list of current medications. Firearms and weapons are not permitted.

If you have new medical records or diagnostic test results:
- Upload via VA’s claim status tool at www.va.gov
- Submit through your accredited representative or Veterans Service Officer (VSO)
- Submit online at https://eauth.va.gov/accessva/
- Mail to your nearest VA regional office
You can bring records to your appointment, but the provider cannot submit them to the VA on your behalf.

If you have accessibility needs, such as difficulty transferring from a wheelchair to an exam table or using an oversized wheelchair or motorized scooter, contact Leidos at 1(800) 682-9701 to ensure accommodations.

Each examinee is allowed only one reschedule per appointment type. If they miss this opportunity, the examination request will be returned to VA, and the examinee will be required to resubmit their claim or the claim could be decided without an examination.

Please contact a Leidos QTC Health Services representative at 1(800) 682-9701 immediately; your case will return to the VA until you are able to attend.

You can request a male or female provider for the following exams: reproductive health, breast, rectal, mental health or if your claim is related to Military Sexual Trauma (MST).
We protect your confidentiality and strive for compassionate, accurate, timely care. Notify Leidos QTC Health Services at 1(800) 682-9701 of your preference.

- Not all claimed issues may be addressed by us or in one appointment.
- Expect personal history questions from childhood to military service, along with a physical exam.
- The exam may not take place in a typical medical clinic setting.

If you prefer to have a caregiver or family member present during the exam, request this accommodation when scheduling. However, the provider may ask caregivers and family members to stay outside of the exam room.
For sensitive physical exams, you may request a medical assistant or chaperone who works with the provider to stay in the room with you.
Service animals are allowed. Childcare should be arranged, as sensitive discussions may take place.

Leidos QTC Health Services is not the custodian of the records; therefore, we are prohibited from giving results to anyone outside of the VBA. Please contact a VA representative for information regarding obtaining copies of your exam results. A VA representative can be reached at 1(800) 827-1000.

Veterans attending C&P examinations within the US and US territories are currently eligible for mileage reimbursement at 41.5 cents per mile, parking, tolls and ferry charges, per individual appointment. Checks will be issued within 7-10 business days from the date of the appointment. If you do not receive your check and believe you’re eligible, contact a Leidos QTC Health Services representative at 1(800) 682-9701.
Active-duty service members and Veterans outside of the US and US territories are not eligible for reimbursement.

You will have the opportunity to provide feedback after you have attended your exam appointment. VA’s Veterans Experience Office will provide you with a survey via the email address on file with VA. If your email address is not on file, we encourage you to update your information online at va.gov or contact VA at 1-800-827-1000 to update your information.
