Hearing Study

Volunteers Needed for a Hearing Study.

About the Study

We’re conducting a research study to compare Apple AirPods with standard hearing test equipment. The goal is to find out whether consumer technology can deliver accurate and accessible hearing screenings. Enrollment will remain open through 2026 or until we meet recruitment goals.

Who Can Participate?

To maintain the integrity of the study, employees of Leidos and Leidos QTC Health Services—and their immediate family members—are not eligible. Participants must also meet these criteria:

  • 18 years of age or older
  • No significant outer ear malformations (such as microtia, anotia, or atresia)
  • Able to use a handheld device (tap, swipe, etc.)

What Participation Involves?

  • A short, 20-minute hearing screening
  • Two assessments: one using AirPods and one using a boothless audiometer

Why Participate?

  • Contribute to research that advances science and medicine
  • Play a part in supporting hearing readiness for Service Members and Veterans
  • Participants will receive a $10 gift card as a token of appreciation for their time
